Perch report 7/5

Fished SE of Green Island, west of the ferry lane. 4 hours, 6 man limit of 180, 57 lbs at the cleaners. Used crappie rigs and spreaders. Both were effective. It was hot and lots of bugs. But it was worth it!

Dive curve

I have a question on the dive curves. A jet 30 shows on the card 125feet out for 20ft depth. The bible says 90 ft out to reach 20ft. The discrepancy is about the same for a jet 40. I realize i can check this just by gettin into 20fow and seein where i start hittin bottom. I also realize it depends on the line, im using 20lbtest. Im using the big water edition for precision troll as the bible edition which pretty much is just for jets, dipsys, snap weights etc. Any advice from you pros? Thanks

Draggin’ the Line with John and DD

Went out fishing with John yesterday and my girlfriend was able to go with us for a change.Had not fished with John in almost a month due to him getting his new boat repaired.Coming back from put in Bay memorial weekend he hit the CIC wall and damaged the stern corner.Started out at Lucy point thanks to Billy Boy’s post…thanks and marked alot of fish. The ride out was beautiful, with a gorgeous sunrise and a flat lake.DD sat in the copilot seat and enjoyed the fast non bumpy ride.Set out 4 dipsies and 2 boards and headed north. Was picking up fish right away but they were mostly shorts and barely legal. We trolled into Canada and turned around about half way into Pelee after bite slowed. Then started catching some sheep and a 10# cat. After 90 min had 7 in box then decided to head east where we drove past last week.Marked alot of fish a few miles east of Kelly’s Island shoal but there were too many nets a too rough to fish thestre.Today with Canadian licences we could fish north of those nets. There were good marks but mostly on the bottom of 39-42 fow.Set up and got better fish with hardly any shorts.Got the rest of our fish in another 3.5 hrs so 18/33 lbs at cleaners.Speed was around 2.7 mph and had two green spoon harness on dipsey 3 setting at 85 and 80 and double willow harness on 1 setting at 60 and 65.Wad a gold bandits on a board that caught 1 fish and a harness on a tru trip that caught one also. But almost everything on the dipseys. The midges were terrible without any wind and after John spend a whole day cleaning the boat after the repair, the midges trashed the boat.Going over there now to help him clean the boat.

Perch bite

Wife and I went out early this morning. Started at G can about 6:00. No wind, humid, and the bugs were absolutely horrible. Moved 40 minutes later about 3/4 due south of Green. Just us and one other boat. Caught our limit 60 in about 3 hours. All really nice 9-12 yellow gold. Also caught crap load of sheep head, catfish, and white perch

Boat cam finally up

Should finally get the powerboat out this Fourth of July weekend. It’s in the water, but I still have some boat work to do this evening and on Friday. Will be out on Saturday but not fishing much, over at Middle Bass Island. We’ll see about Sunday through Tuesday. May be out Friday evening if I get all the boat work done in time. Webcam should be up the entire time I’m out.

Looking for Braid Recommendations

What braid works well with Dipseys and also behaves like the Berkeley 10 XT when using the Precision Trolling app? I’d like to be able to use the same rod for Dipseys or for pulling crank baits with in-line boards. I’m using the Sam’s Pro release on the front of my boards. Braid color preference? Thanks!

7/1 the perch are in!

I waited out the wind until about 1:00 this afternoon. Did some trolling with harnesses in the triangle west of middle bass. Ended up with 3 eaters by 4:00. Was marking a lot of what should be perch. Ended up dropping anchor south of rattlesnake marina entrance. Started at 5:00. Pulled 12 keepers by 7:00. Nothing great 8-10” some throw backs, and a couple sheep. All I had was crappie rigs, and frozen shiners. Maybe spreaders would have been better today. Every one came on the bottom hook, and they wouldn’t touch 1/2s had to be whole. Back at it in the am. Going to try for a couple eyes early then back to perch by 7:00.
